The reincarnated selves are intended to contrast in some significant ways from the original, so yes, that is expected in an applicaton. See: You are encouraged to deviate from the original personality in three or four major ways. While I understand the original Mythos himself is on the blander side, as was made evident in your application, an AU should exhibit a few different qualities. What you have so far is a decent start, but still vague ("a little more grounded") and in need of expansion, as noted.
The issue with the samples provided is age, primarily. Any newer ones will do fine, either or on the personality, though I'd recommend shooting for the reincarnated one as that will also help make the differences shine a bit more and should be easy enough to whip up.
