Ah! My apologies, I suppose I should've asked in advance but I guess I was operating under the assumption that Evas would be off limits due to containing a human soul? They actually require one to operate, and in most cases the synch requires mother-child bond. In Shinji's case in particular, Unit 01 contains a possibly appable character's soul, though I do doubt anyone would app Yui Ikari.
