Ymir used to live in a society where spices were very rare and expensive, but she also lived as a thief in the capital for a while and I'm sure she got her hands on some luxury food there at one point which would have contained whatever spices were available in the capital city. The spiceplosion of Julien's cooking echoed with the perceived spiceplosion of holyshitthisisnottotallybland of that stolen food.
