Reason for Echo: the skirmish/WHATEVER TERRIBLE THINGS ACTUALLY OCCUR after the sage meeting is revealed to be a trap + cr being injured (ie. haruka) → canon recurrence! it's similar to thor/loki/et al's trip to jötunheim being the result of orchestration and it all going (objectively) pretty terribly. What is returned: the ability to cast momentary, entirely fleeting (and somewhat faded, as if the strength isn't there) illusions. he also won't have the slightest idea how and, for the moment, will only be triggered when he's feeling desperate/in danger.
