Basically he can create some kind of energy blast while wielding a blade, which when in full control has the power to level buildings. In this case the most he will be able to do is level a room, and he will have absolutely no control over it when it first appears but will gain it over time. I'd say a couple months before his control is pretty good and then a couple of more after that before he's really good at it.
