This will be fine so long as it's more of a super strong suggestion (which can be shaken off with considerable effort, especially if it's particularly against the character's personality or what-not), and can't be held in place longer than a few minutes. As you suspect, it will have no effect on Vermedi and any Vermini-controlled animals.
