Player: Lexil Character: Lazarus "L" Lawliet Reason for Echo: After this thread in which L accepts a case involving Cesar's brother's disappearance in Greece, he bought a Greek textbook to see if his other understood Greek. The hunch was based on his knowledge that the guy was multilingual; turns out it was solid. Type and tier: Tier 1, ability What is returned: The results of having studied some Greek in his other life, ie the ability to speak the language well enough to communicate. In Death Note, L's a foreigner who speaks perfect Japanese before accepting a case there, conducting his entire investigation in the language; as an anime genius who solves cases worldwide, he probably has a strong grasp on the world's major languages and decent, if not perfect, grasps on languages that are less widely spoken. Though Greek's only spoken by 12 million people, he probably would have focused on it since it, along with Latin would have aided him in learning other languages. Greek and Latin form bases for languages like English, Spanish and French, which he is heard speaking in the live-action version of Death Note.
AN: My degree's in linguistics so I cringe a little bit insisting on how ridiculously multi-lingual this character is. Know that I know that real people are far more limited in their capacity for learning languages and that anime geniuses don't real. This is as close as L gets to a superpower. :|
