Applications
THIS APPLICATIONS PAGE IS NOW RETIRED. TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, GO HERE.
As of April 1st, 12:00CDT, applications have opened.
The Application Explained.
Please post the application to the character journal and post a link to this page. In addition, please check for spelling and grammar prior to submitting the application. Applications that are error-ridden to the point of severely affecting clarity may merit revisions or rejection.
OOC Information:
Name: Whatever handle you go by.
Are you over 15? If not, sorry but stop here.
Contact: Should we feel the need to contact you privately, what is your preferred method?
Current characters in the game: Include preincarnation's name and canon, or none if applicable - please do NOT delete this section entirely!
IC Information:
Name: If the names of the Preincarnation and Reincarnation are different, please specify. Remember that your character will have a human name.
Canon and Medium: Please note that only well-established (significant source material published, with viable translations available in English) canons are acceptable here; we do not accept self-published canons due to potential conflicts of interest.
Age: If the preincarnated age and the new life's age differs, please specify.
Preincarnation Species: Their original species, if known.
Preincarnation Appearance: A concise description or link to an image will do.
Any Differences: Remember that only a normal human appearance will be acceptable, except in cases when the character will begin as a terrestrial animal.
Starting Location: What Echo boundary is your character starting in? Current locations: 1) Locke City, NJ, USA. 2) Las Vegas, NV, USA.
Preincarnated History: What happened to your character in their canon? You don't need to explain the entire series to us, just the relevant parts in regards to the character's development, and some context to make sure it makes sense. Headcanon should be written in italics.
If you prefer you may write a bare-bones history and post a link to a wiki or resource that covers more details. If the character is an original character, please outline the world they live in as well.
Reincarnated History: What happened to your character that got them to this point in their normal, human life? While a lot of information isn't necessary here, please give us a clear picture of who they are now and where they'll be headed in the context of the game. If you're re-apping a character you previously played, please include their experiences in-game and what they've been doing in the mean time as well.
First Echo: What caused their first Echo, and what did it give them? Players may choose events from the timeline or a canon recurrence. Keep these Echoes simple, but meaningful, and keep in mind that returned effects/objects caused by canon recurrences must be directly related to the event giving them back. If re-apping, please include all of their previously-obtained Echoes.
Preincarnation Personality: What sort of person were they in their past life? Headcanon should be clearly marked in italics. This section is important, as it helps us gauge your grasp on the character, so spare no expense here.
Any Differences: You are encouraged to deviate from the original personality in three or four major ways, made to make their personality logical to the setting and their new history (which, by default, varies from their original life). If the personality does not differentiate significantly, or if the differences do not make sense given the rest of your app, revisions may be asked for.
Abilities: What abilities did your character's preincarnation have? To what extent were they used? Include any equipment they had access to and any skills they had. Headcanon should be indicated in italics, as before. You may write a brief synopsis and link to a more detailed resource if you wish. Favor conciseness here, and try to limit (or else otherwise elaborate upon) canon terminology to avoid confusion.
Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Some form of extended, third-person prose exhibiting strong voice and key behaviors of your character. If the voice is weak or the characterization appears to be off, revisions may be asked for.
Roleplay Sample - Network: Same as above, but in network-style format, using text, video, audio, etc. This MUST be on the network.
*Note: One of the samples (of your choice) must be done from the perspective of the reincarnated character, set within the game. Samples from the test drive community may be used for this purpose.
Any Questions? If you need to clear up any lingering questions or concerns, here's the place to do it.
Combo Applications Explained.
We allow applications for multiple characters that are deeply linked and will only count as one towards the player's character limit and activity, although to prevent disappointment, any combo apps must be requested beforehand. This is for characters that are deeply intertwined to the point that if they are ever apart, it's a moment worth noting, including characters that are physically incapable of being apart and ones that are so often together that being apart would affect their personality drastically. There is no upper limit to the number of characters that can be in a combo app, aside from as common sense dictates. Combo apps are opt in, so characters suitable for a combo app could also be played individually. Combo apps can be retroactively applied in these cases at request.
To request a combo app, please fill out this form.

Names:
Canon and Medium:
Why should they be combined? What makes them suitable for a combo app? Be as detailed as you feel is necessary.
Once approved, you may fill out a single application with all the approved characters.
Note: Applications are dealt with as they are received, by a majority vote process among the mods. While we try to get to each app in a timely process, ultimately speed may depend on busyness and the need to discuss some apps before a decision is made. Regardless, if your app has not been seen to within a week of its submission, or if it's been three days since you answered a request for revisions, please feel free to drop us another line here or by some means of mod contact here!
Characters being re-apped: While you may use the same application as before, if you intend to have them be the same reincarnated character, please make sure that the application has not changed, and to include new information covering what happened to them in-game and what they have been up to since losing contact; if they are keeping their Echoes, please include them under the regular 'first echo' heading. Also note: characters who dropped or idled while having a strike can not be be reentered until their first strike has expired (four months past the activity check they failed). For example, a character who took a strike in the September AC must wait until February to be reapplied.

In addition, while I can appreciate the work involved in your formatting, please use the original form(s) provided for you on the application page. Your edits complicate reading what's already... really, really complicated.
Overall, this needs to be cut down by a heckuva lot. It looks like you're trying to bring the premise of an entirely different game into this one, which causes inherent problems in overlapping and top of all the other issues mentioned, it's just too much. Lots of detail for OCs is great! But there's a difference between detail and excessive detail, and I feel we're crossing territory into the latter, here, in pretty much every area.
You're clearly a talented writer, and I can see real potential in terms of what you're shooting for. But this needs to be reworked, cut down, and made reasonable within STE's setting before I can give it a proper review.
And to answer your question: nope, no rescinded Echoes. What you get is permanent, and is an intended, adaptive part of the game.

Oof, I was worried about that. Okay.
A couple questions before I can start on a rewrite:
How would you expect a fandom character with a canon reincarnation to be handled? I wasn't intending for him to develop multiple personalities in this game, since the multiple personality aspect was sort of a reality overflow error that wouldn't exist in this setting. Would the two different preincarnation histories/personalities necessitate a combo app even if it's still just one person/personality in the end (if only to make it easier to follow)?
Just so I can spend my time focusing on the right stuff: I'm assuming history/skills are the biggest offenders lengthwise? Does the history specific to this game also need to be trimmed down or is it just the past-life(lives) stuff?
Would it be acceptable to do a more detailed skill write-up in a separate post and a summary in the app with a link to that? (Basically I don't want to be accused of pulling powers out of thin air while playing an OC, so I wanted to give a clear outline of his capabilities, but it is probably way too much for an app.)

1. Ideally, either cut out the canon reincarnation and simplify it by seeeeveral orders of magnitude. Simplify, simplify, simplify is what needs to be done with this app in order for it to jive in game. Think less in terms like "reality overflow error", because that train of thought is what's making this hard to follow. As for the combo app business, it was just a suggestion look into; as I said, I couldn't even tell you for sure looking at this the way it is now. And I tried oh boy did I try.
2. Length is not the overriding issue here (I meant excessive detail more in the sense of your layering, stuff on top of stuff on top of stuff, sorry if I was unclear before). We've had long applications before, which still were accepted as they followed reasonable logic throughout. The issue is that you're trying to stuff too much into one character. A lot of time was spent on a skills section that... really didn't need to be nearly so complex, and could've been better spent trimming down others.
3. Still thinking too over-the-top here. Skills, abilities, things like that aren't as important as a coherent personality, a coherent history, a coherent character. I had another mod look over this, just to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and they were similarly baffled. A concise list of abilities (say, one or two paragraphs of about three to five sentences each) should be enough to sum up your character. If it isn't? You need to trim. So long as the core abilities are listed in the application, no one should have any issue with air pulling powers.
I understand you're excited about your character and his world, but you also need to understand that they are starting off as your Average, Modern Day Earth 2013 Could Live Right Down the Street Joe. Just glancing over this application, it's already going way off the rails, and that's just not going to be manageable from the start. Check out some other OC applications that have been accepted to see what we're looking for, and even some general ones. Basically, make your character interesting, but not with so many snarled hooks he might as well have fallen off a fishing boat. Dig?
Oh, and one more thing -- none of this is intended to discourage you. Your presence would be a welcome one in game and you could write samples in your sleep, from what I can tell. You just have to chop this by about half, or more, and come up with a workable concept in STE's world.

Haha, alright. If I was just rerolling the character as a native this wouldn't even be hard! I do have a very clear picture of him as a Modern Day Average Joe but I got too caught up in detailing the stuff he'd have available to be echoed.
Thank you for the feedback. I will give it a rewrite to streamline/simplify (and axe the formatting), and hopefully I will have that for you by late next week. (Giving you an ETA so you don't think the extended silence is me giving up on the game when it's really just a busy week coming up.)

Whatever, it's midnight nothing makes sense anymore and I'm all out of coffee. Bad news for everybody, man.If you have further questions, feel free to ping Sir Totally Wasn't the Woman Behind the Curtain Mod, Deus, at
Not at all funny joking aside, I look forward to the application, and wish you the best of luck!

(okay so maybe slightly late on my ETA)
Let's try this again.
Still a novel, but hopefully comprehensible instead of comprehensive?

We do not feel as though the canon/game from which your character originates is suitable for the setting. The concept itself is very interesting, that is to say, but given the incredibly meta nature of the premise, the resulting complicated character history, and the difficulties we foresee in checking your character's actions, abilities, and past (particularly in regards to future echoes) against this "canon," it does not seem to us as though Ravi will work.
Further, while we acknowledge that Ravi would not be gaining the pseudo-DID described in your application as a result of events in STE, we have some doubts regarding other diagnoses you have given the character. As you are no doubt aware, portraying such psychological disorders is a delicate matter, and we are uncertain whether you have done the research necessary to do so accurately. The basis for this worry is the fact that the symptoms you describe Ravi/Akhi as exhibiting because of OCD are not really indicative of that disorder. There is a very large difference between the sort of ritualistic behaviors (counting, needing to touch certain parts of a door in a certain order before opening it, etc.) associated with the disorder and the more generally anal-retentive behaviors that Ravi seems to have, even if people frequently mislabel them in casual speech.
As Deus said, you're a very talented writer and we would love to have you in the game, but with these concerns in mind, Ravi may not perhaps be the best choice for this.

The thing is that I meant OCPD, not OCD, but I forgot that OCPD has a different name and isn't just a sub-type of OCD. It was one of those things where I started misremembering it at some point because of the similar names + incorrect layman use, and wasn't aware that I was misremembering it to think to check it. It's a really easy mistake to make BUT IT'S A REALLY EASY MISTAKE TO CATCH TOO. I really should have double-checked that, I'm sorry.
If the issue is specifically his preincarnation history/"canon", then I don't have a problem with scrapping it and starting over from scratch. I told Deus already that I'm more interested in playing with the combination of his Earth reincarnation and paladin abilities than the specific preincarnation circumstances. I can reroll OCs in my sleep tbh, so it would be easy enough to roll up a cohesive and uncomplicated preincarnation history with no associations to the canon of the first attempt.
Would that be enough to get reconsidered?
no subject
As far as rerolling him is concerned, I think that would solve the issue neatly. Please do do it! I'm eager to see what you come up with, or else how what you have already will be revamped. Good luck.
— Oh and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Things have been a little hectic around here, but they seem to be settling down now.

Okay, cool. I will get back to you with a new app then. Do you want me to add it on this thread or post it as a fresh submission?
No worries! I hope you guys get your situation sorted out neatly.

Thank you very much. We're doing what we can.
