Echo Requests (retired)



Please fill out this form when requesting an Echo, then post it to this entry. The request will be dealt with as soon as possible.

When requesting an Echo induced by a past-life parallel/recurrence, please demonstrate clearly the similarity between the events, as well as the relation between the events and what is returned.

As of September 2013, Tier 2 Echoes can be granted once a month per character. Take care to specify the limitations and/or level of detail to the Echo requested! If you are unsure, suggestions will be gladly offered.

Reason for Echo: What caused the Echo, whether it be by a plot-related trigger or a canon recurrence. For the latter, this must be unusual enough to have been the first time the character has encountered it within Locke City, and strongly resemble a specific event from canon. Picking up a jug of milk from the store will not cause an Echo if it isn't any different than the times the character has done it before.
Type and tier: Physical change, power/ability, mental/memory, or item/creature. Tier 1 are the regular Echoes, and are typically a single memory/ability/item/etc. Tier 2 are essentially two regular Echoes rolled into one, such as an item and a memory or ability associated with it, or two directly-related memories, or so on. Currently only one Tier 2 Echo is allowed per month, so please be sure to note them somehow on your info posts.
What is returned: In the case of canon recurrences, these must be directly related to what has caused the Echo. Stronger recurrences = stronger Echoes.

What is returned: The word "Decepticons," the knowledge that the symbol she got earlier is THEIR symbol, and the language is THEIR language. The knowledge that they were a faction rebelling against what is (in her/Starscream's head) an oppressive dictatorship.

Reason for Echo: Aaron was haunted by the smell of wet dog, a howl in the night, and a voice in his dreams on May 13.
What is returned: He dreams about fighting the corsairs of Umbar as Captain Thorongil in Gondor's army. The memory begins at the tail end of the sea-battle and ends with the death of the corsairs' lord at Aragorn's hands.

What is returned: The memory/feeling that the more he figures out about his own abilities the more he should keep quiet about it; a sense of needing to keep his gifts hidden.

Reason for Echo: Spending some quality time examining statuary is actually a canon recurrence, as it happens. (ETA: If it impacts the decision re: whether this is allowed, she's also discussed them with someone.)
What is returned: A tiny snippet of a memory of looking at a bronze statue of a woman, and maybe two lines of dialogue about it (not enough to get any meaningful context, such as who she's talking to or the fact that the statue is more than a statue).

Okay, if one of these doesn't work for whatever reason, I may need to change the others entirely because that could be...bad. So putting these together to see if I can get this whole thing to work out:

Player: Sam
Character: Luca Trulyworth
Reason for Echo: She's penciled in for a Vermedi sighting on May 26th. She only has two Echoes, so I don't anticipate her getting bumped to give the chance to someone with less, but on the off chance that does happen, I could adjust this so she touches two statues in the gallery instead of hanging around and just getting the one Echo there.
What is returned: A Diquility crystal. Without getting too deep into wave theory, this is basically a crystal that third-generation Reyvateils need to have put into their Installer Port every three months to keep themselves from dying.

Reason for Echo: Hanging around the gallery, probably on the 27th? After the Echo above, at any rate.
What is returned: Reyvateil physiology, on an internal level (i.e. she won't be getting back her wacky purple hair yet). The external sign of this is the return of her Installer Port, which looks like a tattoo about 5cm in diameter and which crystals (like that Diquility up there) can be installed through. (Luca's is said in canon to be at her ribs right under her armpits, I guess in that spot her clothes just barely cover. They never specify which side; I arbitrarily go with on the left.) The internal gist of this is that once she's got a real power source she'll be able to process and use her magic properly. Third-generation Reyvateils, however, also suffer from something called Tattoolist Disease, which first manifests when their Installer Port appears - basically they don't process their energy the same way as other types of Reyvateils, and they need to have a Diquility crystal installed every three months to stabilize their energy or they get a fever, pass out, and die.

Reason for Echo: Canon recurrence of getting struck with Tattoolist Disease, should she get that second Echo.
What is returned: The memory of the first time she had to deal with it in her past life - basically, she won't remember what it's called or why it affects her, she'll just remember that getting really sick means she should probably get someone to help her jam that crystal in her port before she dies.


So basically these are meant to work as a set, and if any one of them isn't going to be okay at this point then I'll want to reconsider what to do here instead of taking the parts that do. If it's all approved, she'll be on a constant three-month timer to dying, but I expect that should give me plenty of time to Echo another crystal into her possession each time before that hits the point of being life-threatening.

What is returned: Her NRG, in an incomplete form. It just resembles a bracelet, with no real use. It does, however, come with a sense of sentimentality for Kay, so as to ensure she'll wear it.

What is returned: His black left arm - which he will play off suavely as a very large, inky tattoo through persistent encouragement of this-has-been-getting-worked-on doublethink.

I apologize if this is planning a bit too far ahead!

Player: Blue

Reason for Echo: Self-inflicted seax injury resulting from a lapse of grace in the planned upcoming mine dive.
What is returned: His undead damage tolerance. In this case, he'll likely wind up with the blade of his sword stuck in his side in an injury that wouldn't be unlikely to kill him left twenty to thirty minutes unchecked and that would certainly keep him from going anywhere on his own under most circumstances. In fact he'll probably have just begun slipping out of consciousness when an Echo hits - in the form of the same burning magic that came over him when he touched the first statue in the Dead District, which will roughly wake him back up and allow him to grit his teeth and keep on going without the wound worsening in itself.

His zombifying spell would technically keep him functioning through anything short of damage or stress that is irreparably lethal instantly or within a minute or to - he wouldn't be revivable if he were to be, say, incinerated, subjected to Remove the Head or Destroy the Brain, or if his vital organs were shredded in more than a few places at once.

It'll mean more as his zombification progresses later on - for now he is as good as perfectly alive, and while he can theoretically push through the same levels of damage now as he'll be able to as a full zombie later, his limits are different. That he still has a normal degree of tolerance for pain may lead him to inadvertently hurt himself more out of stress in particularly dire situations or with especially nasty injuries; losing a significant amount of blood during or resultantly within a few seconds after sustaining an injury would still cause him to feel faint at best or allow it to count is immediately lethal at worst; until he's much more dead than alive he'll still be susceptible to sickness, toxins, infections, and so forth; etc.

Reason for Echo: Encountering the Sage of Earth.
What is returned: Language! A bit of looking at the new words and it'll occur to him that it's definitely not Latin and is probably an old Franconian - not so obviously useful in modern times, but still a valuable enough something.

- His ability to produce Dying Will Flames. However, he has nothing to channel them into, so he won't be able to use them until later!

What is returned: BLAM. his memory of the tapestry will be spotty, i.e. he won't know if it's a memory from his childhood or a memory from when he visited the vist foundation mansion with audrey. he will remember the À mon seul désir inscription, though.

Reason for Echo: Shiro decides to go to the art gallery to see if all this shit is for real. It is.
What is returned: Hollow hunger/carnivorousness. Shiro will be hungry almost all of the time to the point of feeling ravenous. Since eating souls is not a thing he can't do (yet), eating raw meat and living animals will abate the hunger for longer periods of time than other kinds of food. His stomach will go through the necessary changes to accommodate eating raw meat. As such he will be puking up the old lining of his stomach along with some blood! YAY!
