Echo Requests (retired)

Please fill out this form when requesting an Echo, then post it to this entry. The request will be dealt with as soon as possible.

When requesting an Echo induced by a past-life parallel/recurrence, please demonstrate clearly the similarity between the events, as well as the relation between the events and what is returned.

As of September 2013, Tier 2 Echoes can be granted once a month per character. Take care to specify the limitations and/or level of detail to the Echo requested! If you are unsure, suggestions will be gladly offered.

Reason for Echo: What caused the Echo, whether it be by a plot-related trigger or a canon recurrence. For the latter, this must be unusual enough to have been the first time the character has encountered it within Locke City, and strongly resemble a specific event from canon. Picking up a jug of milk from the store will not cause an Echo if it isn't any different than the times the character has done it before.
Type and tier: Physical change, power/ability, mental/memory, or item/creature. Tier 1 are the regular Echoes, and are typically a single memory/ability/item/etc. Tier 2 are essentially two regular Echoes rolled into one, such as an item and a memory or ability associated with it, or two directly-related memories, or so on. Currently only one Tier 2 Echo is allowed per month, so please be sure to note them somehow on your info posts.
What is returned: In the case of canon recurrences, these must be directly related to what has caused the Echo. Stronger recurrences = stronger Echoes.

Player: Lisa
Character: Danny Fenton
Reason for Echo: the magical pink light show!
Type and tier: tier 1
What is returned: In ghost form only, his organs will basically come to a standstill. He will have no heartbeat or lung functioning, none of that. However, he will continue to breathe, etc. out of subconscious habit.

aaaand NOW LET'S TRY THIS ONE OUT:

Reason for Echo: the tuning towers.
Type and tier: tier 2
What is returned: This is essentially going to be two ability echoes, both of them related to Danny's intangibility. First, he will gain the ability to turn his entire body intangible instead of just bits and pieces, and he will be able to sustain it for longer (maybe a few minutes, tops?), rather than it being a split-second occurrence.

Second, and here's hoping this isn't too much: he will gain the ability to possess people, which is a direct extension of intangibility. There is no physical indication that the person is being possessed, and they only have very vague memories of what happened while they were possessed, as though they weren't paying attention. People can definitely fight it off as well with enough willpower.

It feels like just giving him THE FULL POSSESSION is a bit much though, even for a tier 2, so I'd propose that for now, it's easier than usual to force Danny out altogether, and even while possessing them, characters can still force their own small motions through (say a phrase on their own, make a movement, etc.), although they will still have pretty vague memories of the whole thing. Lastly, I'm going to say that the longer Danny possesses a person, the less control he has over them. Depending on how much they fight and factors like Danny's energy levels, he will lose the ability to control them more and more until the person's actions, speech, etc. are mostly unimpeded. Shortly after that, Danny will simply be forced out of their bodies with a good chunk of his energy sapped (depending on how much the person fought him, etc.) If this is too much, let me know if this whole echo won't fly or if you guys have suggestions to weenify limit it more somehow!

This will only be done with player permission, of course, and I will coordinate with all possessees before Danny makes any significant actions (i.e. anything more than some casual conversation) in their bodies to make sure I don't edge into godmod territory.

Also, he still does not have perfect control over the intangibility. He's gotten better about it through practice, but he still can and will accidentally go intangible at times.

Player: Joysweeper
Character: Julien/Yuuya
Reason for Echo: Lights!
Type and tier: Physical, Tier 1.
What is returned: Class/clade shift! Mammal -> Bird. The features that distinguish Julien as a mammal all change over, so that on a technical level he qualifies as a bird. Nipples lose potential function. Brain structure changes... pretty radically, with the neocortex vanishing and the nidopallidium and dorsal ventricular ridge taking its function. Chromosomes go from XY to ZZ. This will have a profound effect on the game (no it won't)(well okay it means he'll be able to carry the bird uplift virus)

Hair is replaced by primitive hairlike feathers in the same color (white) as Yuuya's. Instead of the schedules human hair keeps, all of the growth and shedding happens during the molts in spring and fall. For the rest of the year if a feather is plucked another will grow in to replace it, but if it's cut, it stays the same length. For now it still looks like hair, though there's two strands per follicle, but in a few months he'll molt and it will be like kiwi feathers.

Instead of the mammalian system of three inner ear bones he gets the avian system, with a single bone and a complex system of tubes lacing the jaw area. The other ear bones are incorporated into the jaw, but the jaw still works as simply as mammal jaws do. External ears and ear canals remain the same. While bird hearing can be damaged by loud noise just like mammal hearing, the relevant cells regenerate and restore peak hearing in about two weeks. Julien's hearing will improve mildly since he's managed to damage his ears in concerts and so on. He doesn't get avian temporal resolution for his ears or sensitivity to infrasound yet.

Reason for Echo: Tower!
Type and tier: Physical? Item? Tier 1.
What is returned: His whole body becomes host to Carneades, the bird uplift virus. Many birds exposed to it will die. Of those who live some just pass it on to their offspring, which are not sickened. Other survivors gradually become more human-style intelligent and larger and gain speaking ability, their children even moreso. Generations in the future, they'll be different in other ways too.

This is a less adaptable or virulent version. It might infect other species, but the species which reaps the most casualties and has survivors who are changed are rock pigeons and their domestic descendents. It would also take quite a while for the survivors to start acting oddly enough for non-bird-obsessed people to notice. Say, six months? When the second generation starts to emerge.

Reason for Echo: Action! Canon recurrence - Julien's taken inside a building/buildings in the Dead District. He's used to shabby exteriors, but he's never been in these here, and the abandoned junk and general decay is practically postapocalyptic. As it happens, there are ruins of human cities in HB.
Type and tier: Memory and mental, tier 2
What is returned:
A brief memory of flying through ruins of human civilization in Japan, seeing some humans he was supposed to meet, and telling them his Dove code phrase so they don't attack him.
This isn't something he was ever said to have done in canon, but the ruins are there, he's with the party that deals with humans extensively, and he's been on a lot of missions that are never detailed.

The flight aspect to the memory leads to, well, a gradual growing longing for flight, slowly becoming a sense that without wings he's bereft, injured, crippled. Heights and the edges of roofs and stairwells and so on kind of call out, there's the insidious thought that maybe if he flung himself out like part of him wants to do, he'll get wings on the way down.

Player: Joc
Character: Xander Jarle / Sandrath
Reason for Echo: Seeing the lights at evening on the 21st
Type and tier: Tier 1, ability
What is returned: Shadow mimicry, which allows him to meld with his own shadow or one around him to teleport to other places. Although, he won't get the hang of it right away. (If the teleport option isn't allowed with this echo, I'm okay with it being left out since I wasn't sure if this would classified as tier 2.)

Reason for Echo: Investigating the buzzing at Tuning Towers
Type and tier: Tier 2, mental
What is returned: Knowledge about the different types of angels and demons.

Reason for Echo: Snapping his fingers for Ravi's lighter (planned log for the 25th)
Type and tier: Tier 1, ability
What is returned: Sandrath's flame ability which is activated by snapping his fingers.

Player: TealDeer
Character: Chris Starsky / Starscream
Reason for Echo: PRETTY PINK LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Type and tier: Tier 1; ability
What is returned: Chris will suddenly understand chemistry about as well as someone who graduated with an undergraduate degree in inorganic chemistry would. This has the following limitations:

> Organic chemistry? Derp? What do you mean, protein chains? Does not compute. Basically she will understand jack shit about any chemistry having to do with biology.

> Some bits will be related to dumb cartoons from the 80s super-sophisticated alien tech that might not actually function in this universe. Stuff like magic acid baths or... I mean you've seen 80s cartoons.

Player: TealDeer
Character: Chris Starsky
Reason for Echo: Following the buzzing noise to Turing Towers
Type and tier: Tier 1; ability
What is returned: Knowledge of advanced physics, including both astrophysics and quantum mechanics, as someone who had gotten an undergraduate degree in said thing. Chris already understands terrestrial physics pretty well, but from an engineering perspective.

With BOTH these things, given that what she's going to know is highly specialized, she probably wont' be able to ACT on the crazier ends of her knowledge without a large amount of specialized (and expensive) (and rare) equipment, of the type that gets you put on terrorist watch lists if you order the parts. For instance, being able to understand the most efficient method of traveling from Mars to Earth, or how to slingshot around a black hole safely, or how to use a particle accelerator? Yeah um, not all that practical.

Player: Olga
Character: Karl Aurion/Richard Locke
Reason for Echo: Training Lloyd in proper usage and handling of guns on Sept 17.
Type and tier: Memory, Tier 1
What is returned: The memory of part one of the Kratos trains Lloyd sidequest. In this sidequest, Kratos offers to train Lloyd in the use of a sword and that will mirror what happens now in Locke City.

Reason for Echo: Lights on the 21st
Type and tier: Memory, Tier 1
What is returned: The memory/knowledge of the light signaling the start of The Journey of World Regeneration. He will remember that a bright light shines in the Temple of Martel and that the Chosen is to go there to receive the oracle to begin their journey to save the world. He will not know the meaning behind any of this or what any of those words mean.

Reason for Echo: Seeing a regular person become overly docile in Hajime's restaurant (planned for after Hajime-mun's hiatus)
Type and tier: Physical/Item, Tier 1
What is returned: Kratos' Cruxis Crystal. Wrongly used, this item has the ability to turn someone into a lifeless being. The person would lose their will, their very soul, and become very unemotional. Some are capable of speech, some, like the angels on Derris Kharlan, move around and talk but there's no real emotion behind it. These people are also easily manipulable in this state. This lifeless state resembles the docile state that the human will slip into and, when it happens, the Cruxis Crystal would find itself in Karl' pocket.

Player: Batty
Character: Kotetsu Kaburagi
Reason for Echo: Seeing the lights
Type and tier: Tier 1; memory
What is returned: An audio-only memory of Tomoe saying No matter what happens, please be a Hero. Promise me that. He won't remember who said it or what she meant to him, but he will remember a sense of that promise being extremely important to him.

Reason for Echo: Following the buzzing
Type and tier: Tier 1; item
What is returned: His wire watch!

Player: Shiny
Character: Calista Hashimoto/Escape
Reason for Echo: This talk with Thomas
Type and tier: Memory & Tier 1
What is returned: I have two requests.. I guess.

1 - Memory of being an AI that worked alongside Enter, but didn't like him for an unclear reason.

2 - An unclear memory where she's calling out to "Papa" But suddenly hit with a slash, and that's where her memory cuts out. This is the memory of the "Killing" Thomas spoke to her about

Player: Gail (I know I'm on hiatus, shh, I'm doing a slow plotty thread with somebody in my free time >.> )
Character: Lyall
Reason for Echo: Canon parallel: it's his first time talking with a British werewolf, so of course this is kind of perfect.
Type and tier: Physical? Possibly mental? I'm not sure what an accent would be :) And tier one.
What is returned: His British accent. This will be delayed, if that's okay, as the thread is a backdated thread! It will return fully when he returns from hiatus!

Player: Airdra
Character: Hajime Aikawa
Reason for Echo: This conversation, in which Hajime talks about insects and humans and why people might not like bugs.
Type and tier: Memory, Tier 1
What is returned: Memory of telling a child that humans fear what they don't understand. She says he's talking like he's not human, and he's startled, but then tells her he's actually a monster. It's the truth, although his mannerisms suggest that he's just telling the child a story. She just laughs and says she'd love him anyway if he were a monster, and he's really confused by that love and the emotions it stirs. He'll recognize the girl as the one from several of his other memories, but still not get back a name.

Character: Naomi Kaufman/Naomi Kimishima
Reason for Echo: Lights in the sky, September 21
Type and tier: Memory, Tier 1
What is returned: A memory of a shady operation for a shady organization supervised by some shady people with outright radical ideology. Basically the episode where she does a kidney transplant for her terrorist employers and doesn't quite question whether it's right, sans memories of names and faces and with only the gist of the following discussion (in particular, leaving out the term "GUILT").

Character: Nick Burkhardt
Reason for Echo: Canon parallel - talking to Ryan about how he hates lying and hiding stuff from the people at work, but he's going to have to get used to it because he can't tell them the truth
Type and tier: Mental/memory | Tier 1
What is returned: The knowledge that his other self was in the same situation, although not exactly what he was lying about or hiding

Player: Nadia
Character: Miles Edgeworth
Reason for Echo: Seeing the lights
Type and tier: Item, tier 1
What is returned: His Steel Samurai action figure, minus the note from his stalker its sender. He won't have any clue what it is of but will have an unconscious liking for it and an urge to display it prominently in his office.

Reason for Echo: Following the buzzing sound to the Tuning Towers.
Type and tier: mental, tier 1
What is returned: His recurring nightmare of his father's murder.

Reason for Echo: Canon recurrence from the tremors that can be felt at the Tuning Towers
Type and tier: mental, tier 1
What is returned: His rather debilitating phobia of earthquakes and anything else that resembles one (like severe turbulence).

Player: Nadia
Character: Takako/Fenrir
Reason for Echo: Seeing the lights
Type and tier: Ability, tier 1? (if it needs to be tier 2, that is fine)
What is returned: Her ability to affect people's dreams.

Since this sounds pretty powerful, let me give the limits to it:
1. She has to be able to see the person (seeing them via one of her demon familiars counts).
2. The person has to be asleep, obviously. This wouldn't work on a creature that doesn't sleep. She will have to be awake to be able to do this (which won't be an issue once she fully regains her inhuman nature)
3. The person has to have the ability to dream.
4. She can only affect what they see in the dream, she cannot hurt the dreamer at all or do anything to help them really, she can only talk to them and affect the overall setting.
5. The dreamer may or may not recall the dream, that is up to player discretion, but they likely won't rest as well and feel unnerved depending on what she made them see.
6. Obviously permission would be needed for this.
7. It will definitely take time before she's very good with altering the setting of the dream.
8. And since canon didn't show her side of it, I'm also going to add in a weakness that she has to fully concentrate on it and will not be aware of her surroundings, making it very easy to sneak up on her.

Player: Trap

Character: Toni/Naoto

Reason for Echo: Pink lights
Type and tier: Physical; tier 1
What is returned: Her ability to manifest her tarot card. In Persona 4, characters summon their Personas by manifesting a card that's unique to them in a mist of blue light and shattering it in some way, thus releasing their Personas.

Unlike Naoto though, Toni will not know instinctively to break her card, and if she does find out it can be broken like glass, it will not yield her Persona-- that's for a later Echo. It'll simply disappear, along with the blue mist that it came with. If not broken, then it'll disappear after a few seconds.

In addition, she will not know immediately that it's the Fortune Arcana, as save for Yu/the protagonist, the other characters don't assign Arcana to themselves, as if they're unaware of the significance of the Arcana to their lives or just don't care. As for herself, Toni has never been into tarot, so she wont have knowledge of it in her reincarnation either. She'll be researching it thoroughly though.

Reason for Echo: Investigating the buzzing
Type and tier: Mental; tier 1
What is returned: Her habit of talking in a deep manly voice. For reference, this is her womanly voice which is also her voice as Toni, and this is her deep "Detective Prince" voice (don't mind Naka and Orgre talking at times-- this vid was the best I could do), which she continues to use even after resolving her issues, indicating it's a habit she has difficulty shaking.

Character: Miles/Hope

Reason for Echo: Pink lights
Type and tier: Physical; tier 1
What is returned: Ability to cast Esuna, which "removes status ailments"-- which means he will be able to cure illnesses and the like. But not injuries, since that's a different set of spells altogether.

He wont be able to cure cancer or the common cold, but things such as poisoning or simple curses would be okay. He's not strong enough to take out higher tiers of ailments/"debuffs" though. Yet. A finer control (and by extension the full power of Esuna) will come in a later echo.

Reason for Echo: Investigating the buzzing
Type and tier: Item; tier 1
What is returned: His Airwing boomerang. It wont be able to work the way it usually does, as it doesn't have AMP or EMP in it just yet. So he can throw it, but it will not come back, or be remotely controlled by him, or circle around five times, or release EMP pulses. But it will damage something with a good enough impact, considering it's really tough stuff not from Earth.

He wont be able to take it apart, considering he lacks the knowledge to do so. Actual knowledge will come later.

Player: Bat
Character: Shiro Nakamura

Reason for Echo: THE PINK STARS ARE FALLING INTO PLACE. I mean, pink lights.
Type and tier: Physical Tier 1
What is returned: Blue, toxic blood. This will be a "slow burn" of an Echo, starting with pica for heavy metals such as mercury, cobalt, and copper. After about a week, week and a half, of eating weird stuff, Shiro will begin to exsanguinate from every orifice and will need to be hospitalized for at least two weeks (thanks regeneration!) with constant fluid support while his bone marrow replaces everything.

Reason for Echo: Investigating the Tuning Towers with Mamoru
Type and tier: Physical/Memory Tier 2
What is returned: Ability to use Sonido (high speed movement utilizing reishi manipulation) and knowledge of how it applies to his previous echo of reishi manipulation! He'll know that it uses weird invisible particles but not what the particles are called or what the ability is called.

Player: Mon
Character: Makani Kapule
Reason for Echo: Seeing the Lights
Type and tier: Memory/Ability?, Tier 1
What is returned: In Homestuck, there's a sort of item combination-upgrade system known as Punchcard Alchemy. It involves physical punchcards of their weird inventory system and overlapping them in AND-coding ways (only applying the holes that both cards have) and OR-coding ways (punching out every hole both cards have) to create sweet new items.

Point is, John figured out a lot about the system and wrote about it in a walkthrough. Upon seeing the lights, Mac would echo back the knowledge of the part of the guide he wrote and with it, how Homestuck alchemy works, with the added caveat that he has literally none of the equipment to perform it. (And even if he did, he needs Grist, which is a whole other can of worms...)

Reason for Echo: Following the disturbance to Tuning Tower.
Type and tier: Tier 2, Ability + Item
What is returned: John's affinity with and mild control over wind. John's Aspect, which is to say his powerset, is Breath, aka wind powers. And is shown at minor levels to have gusts strong enough to put out small fires. The caveat? At this level, the wind power is a completely subconscious reaction. Even if it were to work in a way that made its presence obvious to Mac, he has no control over when, where, and how it works.

He will also reclaim his Heir of Breath God-Tier outfit, which is just a rather comfortable set of pajama-style clothing with a unique hood (in John's case, a large windsock) and the symbol for the Aspect of Breath emblazoned on the front. Naturally, this entire outfit is made to be worn by children ages 13-16, so it's way too small for Mac. MORE USELESS TRINKETS!
