Echo Requests (retired)

Please fill out this form when requesting an Echo, then post it to this entry. The request will be dealt with as soon as possible.

When requesting an Echo induced by a past-life parallel/recurrence, please demonstrate clearly the similarity between the events, as well as the relation between the events and what is returned.

As of September 2013, Tier 2 Echoes can be granted once a month per character. Take care to specify the limitations and/or level of detail to the Echo requested! If you are unsure, suggestions will be gladly offered.

Reason for Echo: What caused the Echo, whether it be by a plot-related trigger or a canon recurrence. For the latter, this must be unusual enough to have been the first time the character has encountered it within Locke City, and strongly resemble a specific event from canon. Picking up a jug of milk from the store will not cause an Echo if it isn't any different than the times the character has done it before.
Type and tier: Physical change, power/ability, mental/memory, or item/creature. Tier 1 are the regular Echoes, and are typically a single memory/ability/item/etc. Tier 2 are essentially two regular Echoes rolled into one, such as an item and a memory or ability associated with it, or two directly-related memories, or so on. Currently only one Tier 2 Echo is allowed per month, so please be sure to note them somehow on your info posts.
What is returned: In the case of canon recurrences, these must be directly related to what has caused the Echo. Stronger recurrences = stronger Echoes.

Player: Joysweeper
Character: Julien/Yuuya
Reason for Echo: Hanging around the art gallery
What is returned: The ghost-sense some characters in HB have - the ability to see, hear, and touch a spirit that isn't weakened or concealing itself from him, a physical perception of cold if a spirit is near regardless of concealment. I never alluded to this in the app because at the time I hadn't examined his interaction with a ghost character; it's never spelled out that he can see them, but had to be inferred.

...I might at some point give him the echo which will let him become a ghost if certain conditions are met. Hmm.

Reason for Echo: Being haunted
What is returned: A memory, but it's the kind of memory without real sensory detail, the kind that's faded back into more of a recounting than a recording. Please tell me I'm not the only person with memories like that. Specifically this!
Basically it's that he was part of "the Party", specifically the "Heaven-Soaring Wings" part which here is implied but not stated to be espionage-based, he was recruited at the age of eight which is not unusual, the work was gonna be dangerous, and he wanted to protect the remaining humans.

Canon keeps it very very vague. I can give it a shot. Assuming that the earth-bound ghost we know in-series, and other characters' interactions with him, are representative...

Many people, humans and birds both, can't see, hear, or feel ghosts. One character speculates that those who can are more "attuned to the supernatural", that animals are supposed to be able to do it, and another says that only the "pure of heart" can interact with spirits, but it's not said just what that means. If it's a personality trait like innocence, well, the innocence of any of the characters who we absolutely know can see ghosts can be doubted. Three of those characters are birds, one is human. The two characters we absolutely know can't see ghosts are both birds, but close-minded and pompous or a complete yandere, respectively.

The one on-Earth ghost we see can disappear to the senses of spirit-sensitive characters, and is easily overlooked even when not disappearing. It's cold where he is but most characters don't associate that with him. He has no "presence" and gets compared to a ninja in how he appears or disappears. ...The subtle kind of ninja.

Whether Yuuya can see the ghost isn't spelled out like with the other characters, but in a zone where everybirdie can see spirits Yuuya, who kept on top of who was there and who was a surprise, was unfazed to see him - he's a species that's very rare in Japan and usually commented on, but Yuuya didn't - and called him by name without being introduced.

I would argue that if personality is the deciding factor for bird characters... Yuuya's not an innocent, but unlike the yandere he can work comfortably around guilt and is a moral, non-muderous person. Neither is he close-minded, and additionally he's fairly observant with regards to people. Also there's a self-sacrificial aspect to him, an appreciation for transience and a typically hidden melancholy, and a secretive side which seem to fit.

Oh, also! I was reading Spook! Infrasound - sound too deep for humans to consciously pick up on - can sometimes has effects on humans. Causes odd sensations, changes in emotional state, may make figures appear in peripheral vision. Electromagnetic activity can have a similar effect.

As it happens pigeons are more sensitive to both of these than humans are - they can hear much lower sounds and have magnetic sensors in their beaks and eyes.

"Everybirdie" is just flavor; "everybody" when referring to birds. I just wanted to lay everything out. But all right.

Some people can interact with ghosts, and it's not too uncommon. No one really knows how, but personality seems to be involved - the characters who are closed off and prejudiced or consumed with hatred can't, the characters who are more accepting of strange things and people can. Yuuya's more on the open side.

Yuuya acts like he was already familiar with a ghost character, at least in passing, when he sees him. A few minutes later he sees a second ghost who he definitely never met and states that he's never seen him.
