Echo Requests

Please fill out this form when requesting an Echo, then post it to this entry. The request will be dealt with as soon as possible.

When requesting an Echo induced by a past-life parallel/recurrence, please demonstrate clearly the similarity between the events, as well as the relation between the events and what is returned.

As of September 2013, Tier 2 Echoes can be granted once a month per character. Take care to specify the limitations and/or level of detail to the Echo requested! If you are unsure, suggestions will be gladly offered.

As of November 2014, Characters who have had their echoes for over a year can cause echoes in other people This is involuntary, cannot be controlled by either character and doesn't require a recurrence. The receiving character must have 15 echoes or less; they must be physically close to the other character; only tier 1 echoes can be caused that way; one cannot give themselves echoes. Both players must, of course, have consented to this oocly. A character can receive echoes through this mechanic no more than 10 times, and only up to 3 times from the same character. If requesting one of these echoes, please indicate the character from which the echo was received.

Reason for Echo: What caused the Echo, whether it be by a plot-related trigger, a person or a canon recurrence. For the latter, this must be unusual enough to have been the first time the character has encountered it within Locke City, and strongly resemble a specific event from canon. Picking up a jug of milk from the store will not cause an Echo if it isn't any different than the times the character has done it before.
Type and tier: Physical change, power/ability, mental/memory, or item/creature. Tier 1 are the regular Echoes, and are typically a single memory/ability/item/etc. Tier 2 are essentially two regular Echoes rolled into one, such as an item and a memory or ability associated with it, or two directly-related memories, or so on. Currently only one Tier 2 Echo is allowed per month, so please be sure to note them somehow on your info posts.
What is returned: In the case of canon recurrences, these must be directly related to what has caused the Echo. Stronger recurrences = stronger Echoes.

Reason for Echo: Hearing Thorir describe giant eagles big enough to carry one or two people and these eagles coming to help in a battle.

Reason for Echo: Killian calling the Lonely Mountain "Erebor" and identifying Thorin as his Uncle.

What is returned: A childhood memory of being told stories about their lost home Erebor by the same Uncle that taught him smithing when he as a child and an older woman. He know recognizes that Uncle is Thorin.

Character: Doyle/Umbrael
Reason for Echo: He's currently throwing down with a werewolf - needless to say this is something he did in his past life albiet a bit more skillfully
Type and tier: Tier 2, Physical/Item
What is returned:

Physically, Doyle's going to look a little more beastly - his teeth are sharper, his pupils are slitted, his nails grow in tough, sharp, and bright red, his ears are pointier (and can wiggle around), and his skin looks a little... off. Maybe paler, maybe grey, but not like a corpse or a basement-dweller. On the bright side, he'll have a stronger sense of smell and hearing, and will be able to see in the dark a little better! However, he won't read as entirely 'human' anymore to people who can sense that.

The item he gets back will be a silver, narrow, triangular earring, with a dark purple stone in it. Even though he was a powerful godlike being, he was sometimes ~~lazy~~ in need of devoting more of his focus on his shadow powers instead of keeping a different shape. This earring could shift him from his huge natural form, to the... mostly human form I described above. Some additional glamour-whatever-magic helps sell it a little better, but that was him, not the earring.
I've said all that, but the earring for now does nothing, it just looks neat.

So uh, to be clearer - the whole shapeshifting thing is relevant, because where Umbrael's from, weres were essentially humans with magic who used it to turn into animals (to fight things like Umbrael's kind, to be honest), and Umbrael sort of copied their magic so his kind could turn into humans, to better disguise themselves and hide now that humans were getting the upper hand.

Though he'll start out a few hands shorter than that first image, he'll grow into it! Also he's not getting any inherent knowledge of how to move around as a dionsaur thing, that's going to take some adjusting. Not much else to say, really, other than that it's going to suck to be a big reptile in early march!

Reason for Echo: Canon reoccurence. Fay talks to Starfire about Valentines day, about Youou not being very fond of sweet things, and specifically him mentioning forcing Youou to eat some anyway.

What is returned: Memory of getting chocolate fondants from Yuuko on Valentine's Day in Outo, of the group having tea and eating them together at the café, and of force-feeding some to Kurogane since he refuses to eat.

Reason for Echo: Farmhouse alien showdown and chase!
Type and tier: Tier 1 | Item
What is returned: A rather cheap and worn wedding band with the names Sho & Yi-Che written in kanji on the inside of the band.

Reason for Echo: WISE SNAKE
Type and tier: Tier Two | Memory\physical
What is returned: During the whole fight with the snake, Sho will remember a similar battle were he and his little gang were out-gunned and surrounded and everything going pear-shape, and yet having a not-so-serious argument with Kei while in the middle of it and then seeing his mentor just casually toss a man into the air. What that triggers is a touch of his inhuman strength. He won't be tossing cars around or anything so major, only that for a skinny Asian guy, he can hit hard enough to crack stone and bones and shatter glasses if he isn't careful.

Basically at the top of human strength.

Reason for Echo: She basically read through literally this whole post because she's gross and nosy, but since it was Tavia's prompting in a later post that got her to read everything, she mostly paid attention to this fragment of Tavia's thread.
Type and tier: Tier 2 - Memory + Physical;
What is returned: The knowledge and physical feelings inclinations associated with Ashen romance. While Tavia's post was originally about kismesisstude, Kanaya has never had any inclinations towards that quadrant. Ashen romance, however, is strongly tied with whether or not someone ends up in a kismesis relationship and is considered one of the black romances.

Looking ahead a little here, to Wise Snake. I am certain there will be more when we get there, these are just the two necessary for other plans.

Reason for Echo: Jumping/falling off a reasonably high building. :x It's recurrence - Julien's never fallen off anything more than like six feet up. He's been on motorcycles and is familiar with the sensation of speed and wind, but this is the closest he's ever come to Yuuya-style self-powered flight.
Type and tier: Physical change (and mental ability?), Tier 2
What is returned: Some ability to fly, which comes with some changes - skin and tendons of arms alter, the tarsus becomes its own section of the leg allowing for leaping, the tail forms, neck lengthens by a vertebra or two, and flight feathers come in. He retains some independent fingers in scaly clawed form. Some of the elongated wing feathers are prehensile. These have their advantages and disadvantages over fingers, but they'll take quite some time to get used to.

Julien would be a weak flier like this, having an awkward leggy shape and lacking the kind of muscle to flap powerfully and at length, but he'd be able to glide well, skim along the ground, and accomplish wing-assisted incline running - running up something too steep to climb normally with the help of wings. He could manage to get a decent ways up a wall.

The mental component is just basically a crash course in Birdflight 101.

Reason for Echo: Wise Snake
Type and tier: Item/ability, Tier 2
What is returned: A bit of mobile antitank artillery with no precise equivalent to modern human weaponry, but similar to a shoulder-fired recoilless rifle. The kind that blasts fire out the back. It's made for birds around three feet tall, so it's pretty lightweight and not that big, and a little on the fragile side. It launches elongated shells designed to pierce/punch through things on impact, then stick and burn, not explode. There's one shell preloaded and four others that can be loaded and fired. When they're spent it's pretty much just a fancy tube.

It comes with some idea of how to use the thing - it's made for prehensile feathers and bird feet, after all. He'll still need help reloading.
